The damage to the grain and root crops in tho country districts by yesterday's Htorm is greater than was anticipated. One farmer near Rakaia river estimates Bis' loa» at £20C0- Ift Elleamere and Brookside district many hundreds of acres of grain have been ruined, the barley •offering most, while hundreds of acres of grain, potatoes and turnips have bad the tops'cot clem off. Hundreds of acre" of crops are ruined in the Springfield district. The Lincoln district also suf* fered greitly . So far as can be ascertained no damage was done on Banks Peninsula.
