MR SEDDON IN "THE DAYS OF MY YOUTH.

AN EXPLANATION.

Mr T. P. O'Connor in his paper, "M.A i P." has the following explanation to make with respect to" Mr Seddon's autobiography, which we have already published. "I am extremely grieved," writes Mr O'Connoi,, "to say that I have learned from Mr Saddpn that the 'Days of My Youth' article, which appeared last week was not authorised by him in the form in which it appeared. During my absence the article was received by my sub editor from one of the 'outside' members of my staff, whib^had been deputed to arrange matters withMr Seddon. My assistant having been given every reason to believe that the arcticle was dictated had no hesitation in publish ; ng it, after submitting a proof to the accredited colonial xe'piesentative who acted as intermediary and' receiving corrections. I am now exceedingly sorry to say that there was a grave -misunderstanding throughout.^ Mr Seddon most courteously accorded a Jong interview on the 'Days of His Youth' to my colonial' representative; questions were put and answers given ; but the great New Zealand Premier was under the impression that the result would appear in question aud answer form, instead of his. replies being set down as if he had dictated them. In the contrary x sonse, ray contributor and my sub editor were equally in error, and I wishthere'fpre, in justice to Mr Seddon, to 'expre:s "my sincere regret for the blunder, and to state, as clearly and definitely as possible t'lat the article was not dictated by Mr Seddon, and that thus he has every right to disclaim authorship of it. There were three minor errors in the narrative which Mr Seddon -has pointed out to me. but it is not'of these he makes comolaint; it is of the supposed authorship, , through dictation, of a document which, ho.vever substantially accurate, he did nut authorisb. I trust that this explanation will be noted by th 6 Home and colonial press, • who may h»ve quoted from tbe article in question/ " >
