PRESENTATION TO MR. W.G. MURRAY

The Nelson Colonist of the 15 th cays: — At the City Council % Chamber, on Saturday, prior to the meeting of the City Council, the Mayor, at the request of tbe Mayor of Hokitika, presented Mr W. Cr. Murray, Commssioner of Crown

Lands and. Chief Surveyor, with a handaome illuminated address, accompanied by . « silver tea and coffee service for Mrs" Murray, and gold broach for Miss Murray. Thieve came from the people o{:Hokitika and the Westland district as a mark of the esteem in which Mr Murray and bis family were held in that district in which they bad resided. The Mayor read a letter from Mr Michel, Mayor of Hokitika, in which it was stated that, in spite- of Mr Murray's expressed wish, they were unabfe to let j him leave without having some tangible •' <evidence v of the' esteem in which he was , held. Kindly reference was also made to Mrs Murray and members of J|he family. : Want of time precluded the preparation of tbe illuminated addreslpefore Mr Murray's departure from tbe^fgast, hence . the request that the Mayor *of Nelspn should make the presentation. The address was uigned by the Mayors of , Hokitika -and- Ross, Chairman of- the County Council and the Harbour ' Board the Stipendary Magistrate, and a number of tbe leading residents of Westland. In it was 1 set forth in eulogistic language a high of Mr Murray as Commissioner of Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor, for his high prof es2ional r ability, uniform courtesy, aud strict impartiality, characteristics that had been minifesled throughout a long official career dating from the inception of that district. As a man and a private citizen, too,' it was stated, Mr Murray carried with him the esteem of his fellow citizens, with, their best wishes for the advancement of himself and family in their new sphe#. Mr Baigsat, in a few felicitous words, congratulated Mr Murray upon the honorable position he held in the regard of those whom he had lately been ■associated, with and expressed the hope lhajt in Nelson he would gain and maintain a ejg»»lj£ good opinion. » .
