The Wellington Racing Club's Summer meeting opened today in fine weather. Between 4000 ana 5000 were present. The sum of £16,743 went through the machine as against £14,964 for the first day of last year. Results: Anniversary Handicap— Mel wood, 1 ; Phooka, 2 ; Magnificent, 3. All the ac j ceptors started but Blazer. Mcl wood, who waa a strong favorite, had the best of the race throughout, and coming away in the straight won easily by a length and a half in lrain 44secs. Div £4 11s. Maiden Plate— Fashion, 1 ; Cadet, 2 ; Laurestina, 3. Scratched— Kohunui and Sabreur. Fashion won without an effort by three lengths in lmin 43 4-sth sees. Div £2 12s. WELLINGTON CUP. Benown ... , 1 Cceur de Lion -jPaladin -jAll started but Boreaß and Ideal. Tortulla and Materoa led to the turn into the straight when Renown shot out and won very easily by three lengths in 2min 35 2-sth sees. Div £2 4s. Wellealey Stakes— Menschikoff, 1 ; Indian Queen, 2 ; Windwhistle, 3. Also started— Meteor. The latter was left at the post. Menschikoff jumped away with the lead and won all the way by 6 lengths in 49seus. Div £1 9?. Presidents Handicap—Cameo, 1; Queens Guard, 2 ; Strathnairn, 3. Scratched— Blazer and Laurestma. Strathnaii n and Queens Guard led into the straight where the latter appeared to be winning, butu t Cameo came with a wet sail and won by a length in lmiu 56 3-sth sees. Div £3 14s. Hack Race— Conbpirer, 1 ; Dartmoor, 2; Art Jewel, 3. Scratched— Ngaio, Rata, Katriona, G\psy Jaok, Raparapa, and Bowfield. A spWmdid race. Won by a head in lmiu 58 4-sth sees. Div £23 2s. Nurs-jry Handicap — Cruciform, 1 ; Rere, 2 ; Red Gauntlet, 3. Scratched— Laureate. Cruciform was first away and was never again headed and won by 5 lengths in lmin 2 2-sth sees. Div £1 16s. Telegraph Handicap— Blazer, l^ Oingo, 2 ; Ostiak, 3. Scratched— Advance, Melwood, Spider, Cherrystone, Magnificent, Ngaparu, Full Cry and Hiamoe.
