FEDERAL POLITICS.
(Received Jan 21, at 8 a.m.) Melbourne, Jan 21 Rt Hon G. H. Reid, who will lead the Free Trade party against the Ministry has returned from Tasmania. He characterises Premier Barton's fiscal policy as a niilk and water one, aud a more string of platitudes. „ Mr Isaacs, Attorney General £or •Victoria, has decided for Fedoral houors Mr Peacock, Chief Secretary, wilY therefore become State Promier. Sydney, Jau 21. Rt Hou E. Barton's reference to a "White Australia" has caused concern iv Queeuslaud. Mr Barton explains he baa ; no intention to stop the Kanaka traffic immediately, although he would be glad to do so. if it could be done with justice. He considers it a duty to abolish the traffic within ;i low years.
