THE CAPE CABLE

(Press Association.) (Received April 17, al 9.40 a.m)

Sydney, April 17.

The Sydney Daily Telegraph, in urging the acceptance of the Cape cable, says :—: — "When the subsidy expires, in af ?w weeks time, the Eastern Extension Company will be under no obligation to maintain the present tariff and can raise the rates as it pleases. If it chooses to go so far it could refuse to transmit messages. Fortunately it is not too late for New South Wales and Victoria to repair the mistake. They have an opportunity of repairing it at the Premiers' Conference in Melbourne."
