Sheehan has been lodged in the Lyttelton gaol. A crowd assembled at Lytteiton station and hustled the police and prisoner and groaned and hissed. When „ arrested the prisoner wore a hat too large for him, and inside the lining was found a copy of a newspaper containing an account of the Petone murders. The funeral of Miss Lawcock takes place to-day.

Sheehan states he is the son of a bookmaker in, Wellington where he was born. He left home 10 or 11 years ago and has been roaming che country ever since. A complaint was received by the police some days ago that a tent and two pairs of trousers were stolen from Yaldhurst, and accused was suspected. When arrested he was using ' the missing tent as ajbed covering and one pair of the stolen trousers was found in his swag.

' Another complaint was that a man answering the prisoner's description bad assaulted a married woman at Shand's Track on April 1 5th. The woman, who was in Court at Amberley yesterday, identified the accused as the man who had committed the assault. Accused tramped from Shand's Track to Springfield, thence to Oxford, and crossing the Ashley made his way along MtGrey Downs to Amberley.

May 2.

The funeral of Agnes Lawcock, murdered at Amberley, took place at Balcairn Cemetery on Saturday afternoon and was attended by nearly all the residents of the district. The service was conducted, by Revs. Kapley and Dellow. A very large number of wreaths and flowers were seat by sympathisers.

With reference to 3heehan's statement he is the son of a bootmaker in Wellington, the only Sheehan who is a bootmaker in this district resides at Petone. He has Bomewbat of a reputation locally as an inventor of a flying machine with which he claims to have made some remarkable eexperiments. He has never allowed the machine to be seen.
