Sydney; Dec. 4. A terrible fatality occurred at the Stockton mine, Newcastle. This morning a party of miners under Cockburn, mine surveyor, entered the mine to ascertain the cause which led to the death of two men a few days ago. The party were suddenly overcome by the fumes, and a rescue party went to their assistance, but three of these lost their lives',' together with five of % the original party. Seven bodies were recovered. One is still in the mine and one man is in the hospital without the hope of recovery. Adelaide, Dec 4. In the Legislative Assembly the Government proposal to allow a drawback on exported flour to the extent of the duty paid on imported wheat, was defeated. At the hospital enquiry, with reference to Dr Corbius' statement that ho hoped ,Di''Leith Napier would kill a patient

An Afghan named Relaifox ran amuck 'at Freuiantle to*day, armed with- an axe. He split open the head of a wharf laborer named Griffiths, killing' him instantly. He completely severed the shoulder blade of another, man named Henderson! arid made a fierce attack on a constable, but eventually further , assistance .was • ob 1 -. tamed and the murderer overpowered and taken into custody.
