In order to meet the growing demands for telephones the GoVernment are obtaining a thousand of the latest type from England, Siuep charges have been reduced 1200 new telephones have been installed. < Miss Sadie M'Dcnald, a prominent member of Hoyt's " Trip to Chinatown " Company, died suddenly on Saturday niglic after giving a performance of " A Milk-wife Flag" at Her Majesty's Theatre. The deceased lady had injured her spine recently during a rehearsal, and this is supposed j;p have caused death. Perth, Dec. 1. Two prisoners at Roeburne were chained to a tree and in revenge set fire to the grass around them, with the result that they were booh severely burned before they could be released, 'and are now in a critical condition. Dec L The colony has lost 7260 persons, who emigrated last gUarter. Adelaide, Dec 1. Owing to the bursting of a lamp, the tram sheds at North Adelaide caught fire and were burnt to the grduhd. Twenty three cars were consumed in the flames and the damage is estimated at over £5000.
