W^pLIXCiTON, July 30. Ac tile Education Board a return was produced showing that under the Local Bodies Reform Bill Wellington with over 5000 school children would only return one member to the Education Board against 9 by, districts in the aggregate containing a few more. The Board decided to inform Government they strongly disapproved of the provision of the Bill in this respect. Mr H. D. Bell, M.H.R., has received a cable message from London intimating tkafc negotiations for the recognitions of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand by the Mother Grand Lodges of Great Britain have terjminated successfully. During his recent visit to the Old Country Mr Bell took a prominent part in the endea vor to bring about this result and Masons throughout the colony will be glad to leant that success has crowned his efforts. The weather to-day was cold and wet and there is every appearance of rain continuing over a day or two. Auckland, July 30.
The Mayor has been advised by the Mayor of Brisbane that £160 has been paid into the Bank of Australasia as a further contribution from the citizens of Brisbane towards the Brunner relief fund. Rev. J, Curzoa Siggers, acting vicar of St Mary's, Parnell, received news to-day of his election as vicar of St Mathews, Dunedin.
At the half yearly meeting of tho Auckland Gas Coy the leport stated a dividend was divisable of £8551 by 7s 6d on the old shares and 3s 9d on the new shares. They carryforward £19,630. Business nSd increased during the hall year, 27 J per cent and the directors' honoraria was increased to £450.

At the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce the following resolutions were carried : — That this Chamber is of opinion that the abolislrng of delayed telegrams and the institution of the present system of nominally cheaper ordinary telegrams has not worked in the interests of the public and respectfully request that the department revert to the former system ; that in the opinion of this Chamber no person ought to have a preferential claim for rent in bankruptcy. Re the tax on consignments it was decided to recommend the incoming committee to approve of the proposal for the continuance of the present plan of estimating profits at 7£ cent on net proceeds as an average rate with a reduction where less profits or losses are proved, to have taken place. As Mr A, Bart declined nomination for president Mi: Gow will continue in that posjtJQn'.
