A villa /esidence in Mouni street in course ef erection tor Mr Chi&holm, within a week of completion, was entirely des* troyed by fire early thia morning. The < ou'ractors, Leaperßros., ha lan insurance of £200 in tbe Standard. The total loss i" £660. The building was isolated, and thii origin of the fire is a mystery. Jt w s on. a high elevation and water was not laid on.

At the Presbyterian Geueral Assembly a r quest from the Prebytery at Westland, asking that Mr L. Anderson be allowed to mvry and baptise, was granted.
