The Chamber of Deputies has insisted on the abolition of ihe monopoly in the manufacture of matches, The Government were defeated by a majority of seventy-six.

The Brazilian Senate State Council will be abolished, and the Chamber of Deputies dissolved. • America, Italy and France are sending warships to Rio.

Serious charges, some of them of a most revolting character, are being brought against the Maharajah of Dhownmygar. ment of trust moneys in colonial securities. Sir Graham Berry questions certain demands made on the colonies. Sir Dillon Bell thinks it safe to agree since it is optional with the colonies to adopt the Imperial Act.
The English coastwise companies threaten to work vessels at the colonial wharves unless demands cease. The men threaten to block the colonial vessels. This will npt affect the mail steamers.
