A disturbance took place at St Helena, the Queensland penal station in Morefcon Bay, in consequence of dissatisfaction among the prisoners concerning the hominy supplied to them. When Captain Pennefather ordered the mon to fall in for work they refused, not having had any breakfast. The superintendent then ordered them to fall in for the roll to be called, and at the same time obtained the attendance of some armed warders. When the first man was called, he attempted to step out, as required, but two of the others prisoners caught hold of him and would not let him go. Captain Pennefather then ordered his men to load their rifles, and with Mr Hamilton and the warders went in among the prisoners to arrest those who had offered resistance. The remainder, however, would not allow these two to be locked up. The superintendent then reasoned with the men at some length, but eventually had to lock up the whole of them, over 100 in number, as they persistently refused to work. Mr E. H. Deck, Dentist, has arrived in town, and may be consulted at; his Eooms, Hamilton Street, opposite the Eire Brigade Station.— Advt.
