About £3300 passed through the machine to-day, making £6700 in two days. Sir Wm. Fitzherbert leaves Wellington on Monday by the Mararoa to catch the P. and O. steamer at Melbourne. BiLCLUTHA, February 13.

The offences returns for North Canterbury for 1886 shows that 1972 offences were reported to the police, against 2031 in 1885 ; 1836 persons were apprehended against 1885 in the previous year, of these 247 were not convicted. The cases of druDkensess show a decrease of 148, being 841 for 1886, and 989 for 1885. There is no noteworthy increase of serious offences, except forgery, of which there were 23 cases against 13 in the previous year.
