LOSS OF THE WESTPORT.
Wellington, June 21. The steamer Westport, which ran ashore at Horseshoe Bay, Akaroa, and subsequently floated off, left Lyttelton for Wellington, on Sunday morning, after the leaks had been stopped with canvas. Inmorniag, that tue Westport had sunk oft' Flaxbourne, and that all bauds landed in the boats and proceeded to Blenheim. She formation was received fromKekerangu this was insured for £8000, distributed as follows i—Colonial, £3000, £2500 ot which was re-insured in English and Australian offices ; £2500 iv the Victoria, of which £750 was was re- insured in the Batavia ; £500 Union and £500 United; £2500 South British, £2000 of which is re-insured in various English and Australian offices The estimated loss, over insurance, is £4000 or £5000. Christchurch, June 21. The Westport was nearly a new steamer, being about 12 months old, and had been brought out by her owner, Captain Williams, by whom she was chiefly intended for the Westport coal trade. She had on board an 8 horse power engine and a centrifugal pump, which .were considered quite sufficient to keep her dry. She left port with the full consent of the underwriters.
