The Wanganui Annual Steeplechase Meeting took place on the race course yesterday and was fairly successful. Tho attendance of the public was scarcely so large as last year, though the stand and lawn were well patronised. The totalizator was well patronised, £1000 being put through. The principal event waa a great success as Alarice, the winner, was supposed to have no show. He was bought as a hick three months ago for £20. Accidents were numerous, but the most serious was that which befel Edwardp, the rider of Te Whetu, who however was able to get about after a short rest. The events are as under : —

Alarice and New Year made the running from the fall of the flag, and jumping splendidly had the race all to themselves, the former winning by ten lengths. Te Whetu fell, when goiog well, about one mile from home. Lonehand and Catch'em refused at the stone wall, and were taken back to the paddock. The Baron finished nowhere. Time for 3 miles — 6mins 46£secs. Maiden Steeplechase, 100 soys., 2J miles — Mount, 1 ; Dhudeen, 2. Raven, New Year, Sunray, and Parikaranga also ran. A good race between the first two. Time — 6mias 3|sec3. Grand Stand Steeple Chase. — Baron, 1 ; Te Whetu, 2 ; Grey Momus also ran. Lonehand baulked at the stone wall, and caused Grey Momus and Te Whetu to slop also. None of the trio got any further and Mr Douglas's pair canted over for the stakes. • Consolation Stakes.— New Year, 1 ; Chaudler, 2, Lonehaud, 3. Lonehand was the favorite and took bis jumps in good stylr, but the weight told on him, and although ridden right out, he could only finish a bad third, Grey Momus fourth.
