The resolution of the Weatland Railway league, relative to the East and WestiCoant Une, was telegraphed yesterday tp Christ* church. Mr Rae also telegraphed to BJjr Robert Wilkin, of Christchurch, chairman pf the Canterbury prompters of the overland railway, relative to commencing work at bpth ends of the line, simultaneously. The reply of Mr Wilkin is to the effect that this will be done; but the termini have apt been decided on, authoritatively, yet. Messrs Thornton and Browne left yesterday fpr Christchurch. It is requested that any communications pa the, subject of the projected line, may be addressed to the hon. Secretary Railway League, County Council Chambers.
The diamond drill has been again stopped by the Government, who have telegraphed to tbe County Chairman, to say that they will remove the machine forthwith. The reason for this ia stated to be that the engineer of tbe drill reports that he has struck pebbles through which the drill will no.t work.
Tonka's sweep on the Melbourne Champion Race, was announced to be drawn at Grey mouth last evening.
Mr Sam Harris has still a few tickets left in his sweep on the Grand Westland Handicap Shooting match. There are five prizeß and 45 entries.
