BECEIPTS AND PAYMENTS.

The receipts since the last meetiDg were £389 2s 3d, and the payments £200 15s 8d ; bank overdraft, £463 Is 7d. VAMJATOBS. Ten applications for the appointments of valuators were opened from the following persons :— George Harker, Henry Parker, William Spencer, A. Somerville, Peter Zphrab, G. F. P. Ord, John Hedderwick, James Nightingale, J. E. Cuddeford, and W. P. Paterson. After some discussion it was resolved to reduce the number of candidates to six, then to three, and finally to two. The first ballot resulted as follows:— Paterson, 8 ; Zohrab, 6 ; Nightingale, 6 ; Ord, 5 ; Barker, 6 ; Somerville, 5 ; Cuddeford, 4 ; Spencer, 4 ; Parker, 3 ; Hedderwick, 2. The last four names were struck out. The second ballot resuled as follows : — Harker, 5 ; Paterson, Nightingale, Ord, Somerville, 4 each, and Zohrab, 3. The name of Mr Zohrab was struck out, and another ballot was taken with the same result, Messrs Paterson, Nightingale, Ord, and Soraerville obtaining 4 votes each. Mr Ord'a name was struck out on the casting vote of the Mayor, and another ballot eliminated Mr Somerville's narre, on the final ballot paper being left the names of Paterson, Nightingale, and Harker. The final result was Nightingale, 7 ; Paterson, 5; and Harker, 4. Messrs Nightingale and Paterson were declared elected. The Council adjourned for a fortnight.
