OFFICIAL CHANGES ON THE WEST COAST — HOKTIKA AND GREYMOUTH RAILWAY— A REBELLIOUS GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL — THE CHAMPION VOLUNTEER SHOT.

The following changes in official capacities are reported ;— Warden Revell to be transierred to Westport, Warden Broad takes charge at Grey mouth, Warden Shaw to be appointed Eesident Magistrate and District Judge at Taranaki.

A Wanganui firm of contractors have been successful tenderers for the first section of the Hokitika and Grey Railway.

Gbetmouth, March 16. Arrived — Mary Campbell, from Wellington.

A sailor belonging to the barque Examiner, slipped off the breast works last night into the river, and broke his leg.

The Commissioners appointed to enquire in the charges preferred by the Surveyor General against Mr Jackson, Chief Surveyor, of Wellington, have reported that the charges of insubordination and disobedience have been proved. The Government have called on Mr Jackaon to resign.

The long adjourned charge of embezzlement against E. H. Beer, at the instance of Mr Czertvouza, was to-day dismissed, prosecution professing inability to procure evidence.

A public meeting has been called to arrange reception of Governor.

Arrived the Ringarooma and Wokatipu from south. Sailed — Wellington for north, Hawea for south and Wakatipu for Sydney.

A cable message received by the Minister for Immigration, dated Londen sth March, conveys full information as to the intention and movements of the Stad Haarlem, which sailed from Plymouth on the 15th ult., for New Zealand. The Stad Haarlem brings altogether 696 immigrants, destined as follows: — For Lyttelton, 345; for Wellington, 221 ; for Port Chalmers, 130. She cornea direct to Port Chalmers in the first instance, and lands all the Otago and Canterbury immigrants.

Shipping. — Arrived, Benares, ship, 1646 tons, from London, New Zealand Shipping Company, agents.

The Benares has on board the 64pounders and 3 7-tons guns for the defeace of the port of Dunedin, but no provision has yet been made for mounting them. She also brings the plant of the Dunedin tramways.

Greyling of Omata Chemical Works, has smashed his fingers dreadfully in cogs of steam machinery.

A laborer on railway works named John M'Cork, had his leg and arm broken by a fall of earth.

The 5.3. Taiaroa, with the San Francisco mail arrived early, and sailed South soon after.

Club, and at its close Mr J. F. Martin,

Mr Whitaker the contractor for the Waimea Plains Railway is pushing forward the work rapidly.
