MATAURA ELECTION.

Inveecaegill, January 6.

At the Mataura nomination to-day, Shanks and M'Kinnon were proposedBoth give warm support to the Grey Ministry. Up to the last moment an opposition candidate was expected, but none appeared. Another correspondent wires as follows: — The nomination of candidates to represent Mataura in the House of Representative?, in place of Mr Wood, elevated to the Legislative Council, took place today at Gladstone, when Messrs Shanks and Kinross were nominated. Both are supporters to the Grey administration, but Shanks views are much, more moderate than those of Kinross. Both candidatep are working hard and friends are confident of success.
