REEFTON SHARE MARKET
Mr n. G. Hankin reports sales for the week ending May 25, 1878 :—: — Hopeful £2 3 0 Welcome... 2 3 2 Keep-it-Dark 0 17 0 Union 0 2 6 Victoria 0 10 Homeward Bound ... 0 2 0 Nil Desperandum ... 0 19 Perseverance ... ... 0 1 0 Independent .. ... 0 5 6 Dullness still pervades the share market, and business has been very limited in consequence. Dividends have fallen off latterly through the concatenation of circumstances perfectly unavoidable, but always to be expected in reefing. "However, the Hopeful Company have come to the rescue, and have in a alight degree infused new hopes by declaring a dividend of three shillings per share. The Welcome is getting a crushing together, from which no doubt a dividend will be welcomed. The Just-in-Time is also in a fair way of doing, and commenced to reduce quartz of a superior quality on Monday last. The Independent will shortly be in order, when steady returns may be looked for. The Homeward Bound Company has a tunnel 200 feet in length to drive to intercept the line of reef by bearings taken from the Welcome Company's claim. The Victory Company, Murray Creek, are raising stone said to be equal to three ounces to the ton. The reef, it is said, is a continuance of the Golden Eleece line, which was exceptionally good.
