' , v The Tararua will arrive here to-day from Nelson and Westport, and will be tendered by the Waipara this evening a,t 6 o'clock, when the ocean steamer will proceed on her -voyage to headquarters, Melbourne. : The Kennedy sailed yesterday for Greyfnontb. The next Anchor Line boat due here is the Charleß Edward, oh Thursday next, to be followed by the Murray, on the 3rd June. The Waipara arrived last evening from , Greymouth. After many weeks of incessant labor the Alpheta, an iron barque of 1200 tons, has been successfully lifted from Pembridge j Ledge, Isle of Wight, by Captain Coppin, contractor to the Admiralty for raising the Vanguard. This is the first recorded instance of the salvage of a vessel wrecked on this dangerous ledge, and Captain Coppin's operations have jieen watched with considerable interest by the Dockyard authorities of Portsmouth, as well as by Lloyd's agents on the south western coast. — Mail. The Italia, new building at Castellamare, will be the largest vessel of war in the world. It will have a tonnage of 15,000, exceeding that of tbe Duilio by 5000; it will have 26 boilers, fair engines, si* chimneys, in two groups of three each, four c&nnoriß of large calibre on two circulating platforms, while otner smaller ones will be placed on the sides on the second battery. The Jtalia, it i 8i 8 said will be able to " transport " 5000 horses.— Mail.
