REEFTON MINING NEWS.

(from the herald, may 23.) BOATMAN'S.

Battery, — The Hopeful Company have put through the new bboxess s since they were first started up to Saturday last 1110 tons of quartz. The stone now being treated is giving an average yield of about an ounce and a- half per ton. The Hopeful Company intend having a cleaning up towards the end of the present week. The Just-in-Time Company will start to crush so soon as the tramroad is completed from the El Dorado paddock to the mill line of tramroad, at which crushing it is expected there will be close on 400 tons of stone treated.

Boatman's Creek.— Mr Beeche, the manager of this mine, has resigned. There being no favorable indications to proceed with any immediate works, the directors deem it advisable to apply to the Warden for protection for three months. Just-in-Tirae.— The whole of the hands are now engaged in breaking down quartz over the number one and four levels, and as usual some very rich stone is being met with at times.

Fiery Cross. — The lode now being driven on in the intermediate level has a general bearing for improvement, the walls are better defined, there is a larger body of stone and more gold to be seen. Three hands are clearing away a landslip that occurred some time ago on the tramroad and building up the same. There are eleven hands employed this month, and there are about eighty tons of quartz in the paddock.

Hopeful.— The contractors have now made a fair start, their contract is to follow and break down all the quartz met with up to four inches wide between the number four and intermediate levels.

Welcome.— The lode during the last couple of weeks has crossed the drive from

due east to due west, but is now inclined on the usual ddiifse during Which time the reef has maintaitidd an average thickness of two feet. The wtnze Was holed through last Friday evening. The manager will now open out between the two levels, and in the coarse of a few wdeks this company will resume crushing Operations, There are about 100 tons of stone in the paddock. *
