Owing, >ye understand, to the fact of the Dispatch not haviug steam up, she did not proceed outside as expeditiuusly as the captain of the schooner seemed to expect, and without any unnecessary delay he steered direct for the bar, crossing it with the greatest ; ease, and coming safely and gracefully up to a berth alongside the wharf. The : vessej. provpd to be the schooner Martha Reid, from Nelson, in ballast, and Captain Linstrom may claim the honor of being the first for many years to cross the bar without^ the assistance of towage. While making the somewhat hazardous attempt she was splendidly handled. The Martha Eeid will load coal from the Greymouth Coal Company's mine for Nelson.
