COLONIAL MARRIAGES BILL.

In the House of Commons on February 27th, the sitting was occupied, in the discussion of the Colouial Marriages Bill, brought in by Mr Knatchbull-Hugessen, for enabling the children of colonial marriages with a deceased wife's sister to succeed to real property in this country. Its rejection was moved by Mr Gregory, who maintained that its real object was to legalise these marriages by a side wind;, and that there was no hardship to the colonists in upholding our own law. MrHeygate, who seconded the amendment, pointed out that the divergence between the Marriade Law of -England and Scotland was even greater ; to which Mr Baxter replied that two black 3. did not make a white, and urged that to refuse" this act of justice would create serious illfeeling in the colonies against the mother country. Mr For3yth maintained that it was a still greater anomaly to declare a man to be legitimate in one country and a bastard in another. Sir T. Chamber?, Mr O; Morgan, and Mr Sergeant Simon supported the Bill.
