AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
Bluff, January 15. The Australian news per Riugarooma has been mainly anticipated by cable. Melbourne, Januajy 9. Salmon ova has all been deposited in various rivers with very small percentage of loss. Frith, of Auckland, has a letter in to-day'a Argus from which it appears Sir Samuel Wihon is not entitled to so much credit in the matter as the public are disposed to give. There has been some very large sales of stock during the last few days. At the one of Robertson's, at Colac, the large sum of £25,000 was realised. The highest price paid for a Colonial bred bull was 2450 guineas. Entries for the Australian Cup have closed with twenty-seven, and forty-five for the Newmarket Handicap. The revenue returns just published, show an increase of £18,000 on last quarter.
