A STORMY GAME OP POKER.

The game of poker seems peaceable enough as described in that little treatise by General Sheneck, which so fluttered the nerves of the author's countrymen ; some, however, add rules of their own, which give it more character. Thus, in a game of poker on board a Missißsipj steamer, descri ed by the Viokaburg Herald, the last deal was rather stormy. A " champion hand," who had lost all he had in the world to his antagonist, a river blackleg, went ont of the cabin in which the game had been played, taking with him his revolver. A struggle was heard outside. The man's wife had wrenched the_ weapon from him, and entered the cabin. She walked up to the table where the gambler sat ; she cocked the revolver ; she pointed it at him. "Go," she said. He looked into her flaming eyes. " Go," she repeated. He rose vp and reached for the money. " Leave it," she whispered. He retreated. She followed. Foot by foot he backed across the cabin, through the door on the deck to the railing of the vessel. " Jump," she repeated. " I will not." The revolver was raised just half an inch. He turned about, shivered, and was over the rail, leaping far out, and unable to suppress a cry of alarm as he felt himself going down. The boat swept along her arm fell, and re-entering the cabin she sat down, leaned her head on the table, and wept bitterly. This is poker taken aueerieux.
