[pee press telegraph agency.! Dunedin, Jan. 18. De Latour has been returned for Mount Ida, bj' a majority of 235. He is a Provincialist. Christchurch, Jan. 18. The railway through to Timaru will be opened on February Ist. This line is over 100 miles long. At the Primitive Methodist Conference yesterday, the Rev. J. Dumbell was elected President ; Rev. B. J. Westbrooke, VicePresident ; Rev. J. Standrin, Secretary. The following was road :—lSleven: — ISleven ministers, forty-six congregations, 819 church members, being an increase of 177 for tbe year, 1674 Sabbath scholars, and Church property to the value of 12,628. Wellington, Jan. 18. The Government have chartered the s'eamer Egmont, to assist the Luna with the cable. The Luna left port at 1.30 a.m. yesterday, and the Egmont about nine o'clock. A heavy swell iv the Straits is reported, but little or no winds. They expect to commence work this afternoon.
