THE GENERAL ELECTION. THE TOTARA.
The returns of the state of the poll from the Southern portions of the Totara district were brought by the Waipara, which, returned to port yesterday from her trip to the Arawata and Okarito. The posse of Deputy-Returning Officers is sent down from Hokitika to the various polling booths returned in excellent health and spirits, not having suffered apparently either from the arduous nature qf their duties, or from the " perils of the vasty deep." The result o,f the poll throughout the district places Mr Tribe an pasy victor over Mr Comiskey, which was universally expected. Judging by the nuruber of votes recorded, the excitement must have been of an exceedingly mild nature. The full returns which are as follows, give a majority to Mr Tribe of 141 :— .
