MELBOURNE.

The Melbourne Age of the 29th ultimo reports : —

The markets generally are still extremely dull, and we have not much to refer to in the way of sales in consequence. Breadstuff s are steady, the demand continuing fair ; prices, however, are without alteration. There was a large attendance of the trade at a public sale of 3000 bags Adelaide wheat, stated to be in bond. There were many present who doubted there being such a quantity in bond in face of the fact that the latest list of bonded stocks gives the quantity on hand at 2007 bag 3, but on this being pointed out to the auctioneers, the sceptics were properly

met with a declaration th the wheat was ready for immediate delivery in bond. It is quite plain, however, that either the customs returns or the auctioneers' instructions must be wrong. The biddings for the wheat were well up to market values, but holders' ideas were evidently too high. Not to disappoint the buyers, 100 bags were put up for unreserved sale, and brought 6s 9d net cash. Privately no sales have been reported. Elour is held with firmness at £15 ; little, if any, being obtainable below that price. In feeding grains a few parcels of oats have been moved off at rates very unsatisfactory to importers. Some 5000 bushels have changed hands at 3s 4d to 3s 7d, according to quality. Maize is not offering in quantity at 3s lid. Rather more inquiry is experienced for sugars. Fine white crystals have been placed at £39 10s, andyellows at £36 10s. The damaged portion of the Corinne's cargo from Mauritius. 1349 bags, brought fair prices under the hammer. New Patna rice is in favor, and several parcels of the Anna's cargo are about to be closed for. A line of 500 boxes Brandon's candles met with a purchaser at 10£ d. An invoice of tin plates was quoted at twenty per cent, advance.
