The NeAv Batavia Handclsblad of the Bth December gives the following later ne.Avs regarding Wankang's rebellion at Beniermnssing. The neAvly-appointed resident had only been there tAA-o days Avhen Wankang, Avith GOO men, had the daring to attack Banjermassing, Avhich Avas garrisoned by about 250 men. He Avas beaten oil and driven into the morasses to the N.E. of the town. From Sourabaya three companies of soldiers haA-e been sent to Banjermassing. It is strange that the Government seems to have heard noth'ng of the omvard march of Wankang, so that he Avas able to make the attack early in the morning on the 2ath of November. He lost 60 men. On our side four men Avere killed, and one mau and tAvo officers Avounded. If the rebels be not speedily caught, the Banjermassing residency "will have again to expect a period of unrest and agitation.
