News has arrived to the effect that two of the best corps in the Imperial army in Yunan have gone over to the rebel ranks. The account given of the affair is that for some months these two bodies of men, knoAvn as the Shu and Chiang Corps, Avere in the habit of fighting side by side, and that on one occasion the Shu Corps, Avho took the lead, were severely defeated by the rebels. On this, the commander-in-chief threatened to put tlie commander of the Chiang corps to death* for leaving the others unsupported, and thereby allowing them to be defeated by the enemy, and upon hearing of this intention they Avent over to the rebels, taking the Avhole of their soldiers Avith them.
