MAILS CLOSE
For Melbourne and the Australian Colonies, per s.s. Gothenburg, on Wednesday, 29th instant, at 5 p.m. For Melbourne and Australian colonies, the United Kingdom, the Continent of Europe, America, India, China, Mauritius, Cape of Good Hope, Natal, &c, &c, per coach, tliis day, 27th September, at 5 o'clock p.m. Newspapers, money orders, and registered letters, at 4 p.m.
Note. — As thfi contract steamer which conveys the English mail from Hokitika on the 3rd October must leave on the advertised date, and as rough weather may possi'nly prevent communication with her, letters, &c , for the United Kingdom, India, China, America, the Cape of Good Hope, the Continent of Europe, &c, will be received till 5 p.m. this day, for despatch by coach on the 28th Sept. All correspondence for the "English mail posted after that time, and on or before the 2nd October will (weather permitting) be forwarded by the contract steamer on the last-mentioned date. A.
