THE GOAT NUISANCE.

To the Editor of the West Coast Times

and Observer.

Mk Editor — Doubtless you have heard of a case of pickles, but a case of goats is another thing. Well, we have had the latter, or, more correctly speaking, a goat case, which is likely to be well sifted, being the first case of the kind tried up here. Now it is a hard case to shoot poor " Nanny," but a still harder, after going to a great deal of trouble and expense, to have your garden broken into by the creatures, and all your vegetables gobbled up, which has been the case in several gardens — my own amongst the rest. After taking a deal of trouble to get some fine savoys, which were all ready, only waiting for the frost to give them the finishing touch, lo ! and behold, after coming home what should I see but an entire garden of cabbage and other esculents entirely gone, barring one-half of a beautiful golden-tinted Savoy, which I suppose the beggars were unable to finish. Now, the cunningness of these animals. They go back — back — back on the rising ground, until they are level with the fence, then make a spring clean over, and the same way out. The other day, a storekeeper of this town was awoke out of his slumbers by a rush of goats, smeUing the spuds inside, charged the front of the store, knocked down and broke one shutter and door, and walked into the potatoes a hurricane, until Mr Storekeeper came to the attack, fork in hand, and drove them away. Now, Mr Editor, what is to be done ? Are we to have our gardens devastated by these brutes ? Are they to run rough-shod over the County. Do try and suggest some plan ; and oblige — Yours, &c, ANTI-CAPELLiE.
