CHINA.
Six Europeans have been attacked and severely hurt, at Shanghai. Some of the assassins have been captured. A great persecution of native Christians is taking place. There is every prospect of a good Spring ?>teeting, and a large number of presentation cups are on the list of those to be run for. A collision has taken place between the savages of the interior of Hainan and the Chinese troops .stationed in the t>outh of the island; two Chinese military officers were killed, and a considerable number of soldiers wounded. Rutherford Alcock, the British Minister, entirely repudiates Burlinghame's s atements.'and asserts that the Chinese desire progress. Tt is reported that some Catholic missionaries and several hundred native converts have been murdered at Seerchuin. Private information states that there has been au insurrection near Batavia.
