The Kanieri Lake Water-Race Company (Registered) has been formed for bringing a supply of water to the mining district of Kanieri (situate between the rivers Hokitika and Arahura), where it is well-known that a supply is urgently required. It will also be available for supplying the town of Hokitika. From the fe filing throughout the district itself, amongst miners, with regard to the race, a large amount of work will, the directors arc confident, be done ; and part payment taken in shares — Mr O'Connor, the Government Mining Engineer, has been directed to put himself at the disposal of the Company, to superintend the getting ready the plans and specifications of the race. From the number of shares at present taken, the Directors have determined to get the working plans, &c, prepared at once, and call for tenders for cutting the first part of the race — trusting that the public will take up the remaining shares in the market, and not let an undertaking, so important to tho interests of the town of Hokitika, and the district generally, fall through. If 1000 more shares are taken up, the Directors are confident that the race can be brought in successfully and— what is of equal importance — quickly. Applications for shares to be made to the Secretary, who will give any information with respect to the Company that may be required. 6152 m o let A SHOP, In Revell-street south, late in the occupa tion of Mr Mender shausen, tobacconist.
