TREMENDOUS CONFLAGRATION AT TIMARU.
ALL THE PRINCIPAL BUILDINGS OF THE TOWN DESTROYED. [l'.Y ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.] (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Cliristcliureli, Dec. 9, 5.27 p.m. Yesterday afternoon, at. three o'clock, a fire broke out in Messrs Cain and Munro's premises, at the north end of Timaru.
The lire burned furiously before a strong north-wester, till fhalf-pnst six o'clock.
All the principal buildings of the town are destroyed.
Among; the rest may be named the premises of Munro's furniture warehouse ; Knight, painter ; Wood, saddler ; Solomon, draper ; Seymour, watchmaker ; Jacobs, watchmaker ; Erskine, grocer ; Watkins, chemist ; Clarkson and Turnbull, general store ; Belby, barber ; Cutler, chemist.
Horton and Belflehl, office of Timaru Herald ; Bilton, bookseller ; Byrne, private residence ; Morgan, baker ; Mount-ford, photographer ; Melton, siable3*and residence ; Frascr, butcher . Slubbs and King, butcher's shop and residence ; Pogijuisky, barber ; M'Crae, Club Hotel j Stubbs and King, lurcher's shop, No. 2.
Post Office, Telegraph Office, Bauk of New Zealand.
No lives have been lost as far as hns yet been ascertained, but very lifctlo property has been snved.
