TANCRED STREET.

From Gibson's Quay to far beyo:i i Stafford street, Tancred street presented the appearance of a broad river, the water on bother sides Living not only the sides of the houses, but in many cases entering therein, much to the annoyance and peril of the occupiers. The Diggers' Arms and the British Hotel, on the opposite sides of the streets, near Gibson's Quay, had water in them to the depth of some inches, higher up the Tancred street Hotel was flooded to some depth, and the house of Mr Cohen, adjoining, was so fall that he, his wife, and servant, had to seek refuge on the roof. Cobb and Co.'s stables, immediately opposite, were also flooded to a considerable depth. In fact, on both sides of the s'reet up to its junction with Weld street the inhabitants suffered more or less from the influx of the water. In one instance the proprietor of the house, waking suddenly, found the water almost on a level with the bed in which he was lying, in another the head of the house being awakened by a rushing noise, was ' astonished, on stepping out of ?he door, to find himself up to the knees in water. The residence of the Rev Mr Znchariah, near the Jewish Synagogue was not only completely surrounded by the flood, but the watec rose to such a height, that at seven o'clock the Rev gentleman and his family were brought off in a boat. The street, in short, from end to end, was, for a time, a complete sea, and much damage must have been' effected by the entrance of the waters into the dwellings.
