WESTLAND NATURALISTS' SOCIETY.

A special general meeting of the members of this Society Avas held yesterday afternoon at four o'clock, for the purpose of considering the position of the Societ}' as incorporated under the Ncav Zealand Institute Act, 1867, and to amend the rules of the Society in accordance therewith ; and also to elect a representative to vote at the election of members of the Board of Governors of the Colonial Institute. There were present — The President, the Hon. J. A. Bonar (in the chair), Messrs South, Harvey, Sale, Abbott, Aylmer, Beswick, Mueller, and the Secretary, Mr Praser. The President informed the Societj' Avhat steps he had taken Avhile in Wellington, and read a letter from Dr Hector, stating that at a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Institute, held on the 22nd October, his Excellency the Governor presiding, it Avas resolved— " That a certificate of incorporation be issued to the ' Westland Naturalist's Society,' by the Manager, and sealed Avith the seal ot the Institute ; and now it devolved on the Society, in accordance with section 7 of the Act, to elect a representative to vote at the election of. the Board q( Governors,"

It was proposed by Dr Beswick, and seconded by Mr Abbott — That the Hon. J. A. Bonar be elected. This was carried unanimously. It was proposed by Mr Harvey, and seconded by Mr Aylmer — That Rule XIV. be added to the existing rules. This was agreed to. The Secretary stated that as thiß was a special meeting, the general business of the society would nbt be gone into until Friday next, that being the day for the monthly committee jneeting..
