The steamer John Pcnn up to a late hour last night had not be^n telegraphed as having left Westport, neither had she* arrived-in the roadstead. There is, lioAvevor, little doubt; that she will' have left Westport on last evening's tide, and that this morning Avill sect i her berthed at tho wharf. She will then btt ' despatched in the afternoon for Manakau, vi«. Westpo.t. i The P.N.Z. and A.R.M. Company's splen- j did steamer Rangitoto will, Aye are informed by her agent, arrive here on the Srd prox., from Dunedin, and will again be despatched for Melbourne direct on the following day. | She comes unexpectedly, and passeugers i wishing to proceed to Melbourne Avill thus meet Avith an early opportunity. The fine little steamer Persevere arrived yesterday morning in the river from Grey- j mouth, bringing with her a cargo of coals, i Adiich, after discharging, she again took her departure for Greymouth on b.«t even'ng's tide. We hope to see Messrs Paul Brothers' good steamer Murray soon again in our Avaters. She has lately been launched at Wellington, ; to Avhieh port she Avent some weeks back, in order to receive a thorough overluuil. A new , boiler, which lias been turned out in a most ! satisfactory manner from the yard of Mr i Seager, vras to be placed in her. Avlien she 1 Avould be enabled to proceed to sea in about j a fortnight's time. ] The twin-screw steamer Waipara may be 1 expected to return from her northern run to- j day, liaving, the telegraphic shipping informs us, left Westport for Soutli yesterday morning. The fine tug-steamer Lioness has not yet returned from fVcstport, to which port she took her departure on Thursday morning in order to do some towing business. It is likely she will return to-day, Avhen we hope to see one or two of the vessels noAv due from Melbourne shew up and give her some Avork. As Aye anticipated, the schooner Nile took her departure for the Pakihi yesterday morning in tow of the steamer Yarra. She has a full general cargo. The splendid steamer John Perm had, Aye ; believe, arrived at Greymouth List evening, < having on board a number of passengers for this port, she will therefore be sure to put in an appearance in port this morning, and will again be. despatched during the afternoon on a northward trip, her destination as before being the Manakau, giving Westport a passing call on her way up. The P.N.Z. and A.R.M. Company's splendid mail steamship Auckland Avill.hcr advertisement informs her intending passengers | for Melbourne, leave the roadstead positively I this morning, after being tendered by the steamer Yarra, which loaves the port at eight o'clock precisely. We were in error in stating in our yesterday morning's issue that she Avould sail for Melbourne direct, her course i 3 for Sydney direct, forwarding passengers to Melbourne.
