Adelaide, Thursday, Sept. 10. The news from the Jupiter Creek diggings continues of a veiy favourable character, and the number of miners trying the ground is daily increasing. The weather is again wet.

Thc.Prospero, from JJatavia, has brought four bags of the best Java seed rice, to test , the suitability of the plant for South Australian soil. In the Legislative Council the debate on the Northern Territory Bill is again adjourned. Mr Baker moved the previous question, with a view of having a plain issue, between re-payment of the money to the landholders and a survey ,of enlarged sections, put before the House The Council, on Vlr Baker's motion, resolved that it is inexpedient and impolitic to either increase or diminish the Governor's salary during the term of office of the present Governor. The corn market is without alteration. Friday, Sept. 11, The second crushing of silver ore from the Almanda mine gives 28oz of retorted silver to the ton. The South Australian Register states there are 900 to 1000 miners at the Jupiter Creek diggings. The cargo of the Prospero, from Batavia, was offered to-day at auction. The rice was withdrawn. The sugars were all sold, and reali-ed the following rates.---'— Light yellows, £34 15s to £35 ; greyish whites, £34 15s to £35 15s; coffee, B£d to 9|ol ; nutmegs, Is 6d to Is 7£d ; mace, B£d; white pepper 6£d- to 73. The corn market is very quiet. Saturday, Sept. 12. It is currently reported that General Chute is coming round here to inspect the trooi s stationed at Adelaide. The Strathalbyn and Middleton Railway is expected to be opened by the end of the year. J The reports from the agricultural districts are very favorable, and the crops ' look everywhere very promising. Monday, Sept. 14. The case against the Bishop of Adelaide, arising out of the recent appointment to the incumbency of Chistchurch, was withdrawn this morning. The diggings at Jnpiter Creek continue to draw large numbers from the town and countrj' districts. Many, however, who have given the place a trial and have been unsuccessful are coining back disappointed. The corn market is dull. Wheat is nominally 6s to 6s 6d. Some flour, town brands, has been .sold as low as £15, .The weather is very fine. Tuesday, Sept. 14. The diggings at Jupiter Creek are creating great excitement owing to the finding of a nuaget over 4ozs. and reports of other heavy finds. It is rumoured that tlie Government intend to put the law in force, in future in regard to lotteries. A heavy lot of silver has been brought in from the Almanda mine. The late crushing have averaged 27ozs. to the ton. The Burra mine ia to be worked on a new principle. Leases have been taken out for the salt lagoons at Yorke's Peninsula, and it is the iutention of the lessees to work them for the manufacture of salt. Wednesday, Sept. 16. The Government have been defeated on the Bill for the abolition of the Court of Appeals by a majority of fifteen. Mr Boui aut was the leader of the Opposition on this occasion, and moved, as an amendment, that the Bill be read that day t,ix moulUs. Under the advice of Mr Darlington, mining engineer, who lately arrived from England, the Burra mine is to beworke'l by a system of trenching, instead of the system of mining at present carried on. Mr Darlington goes at once to England to procure the necessary machinery. His Honor Jud:>e Wearing has gone on the South-eastern circuit. The four-ounce nugget, found at the Jupiter Creek diggings,' was sold by auction to-day, and realised £22 10s. There has been a hot wind blowing today, with clouds of dust. The corn market is very dull.
