The paddle-steamer Charle3 Edward, arrived in port this morning from Greymouth. In crossing the bar the fine boat grounded several times, but Captaiu Palmer cleverly extricated bis boat from her difficulties, and she reached the wharf with flying colours. Her report says she left Manukau on last Monday week, the 21st inst., and ran down the coast to Taranaki, where she stopped 24 hours. Sailed from Taranaki on the 23rd, and arrived at Nelson on the 24th at I p.m. In crossing Cook's Straits, a heavy S.E. gale was encountered, which stopped her way considerably. Sailed from Nelson on Friday last at 4 p.m., and crossed the Buller bar at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Left again at 6 a.m. on on the 27th, and crossed the Grey bar at 4 p.ia: of the same day. Left again at G a.m. yesterday, and crossed the bar on the top of the morning flood. The Charles Edward brings about a dozen passengers, 3,7000z. of gold from Westport, and 20 tons of cargo from the various ports in her route. She sails again this morning at 8 o'clock, for Manukau, via Greymouth, Westport. and Nelson. The P.N.Z. aud A.R.M. Company's fine steamer Egmont, sailed from Wellington for this port yesterday morning at 8 o'clock. Being favoured with the present fine weather, it is very probable she will make a. quick run, and we fully expect to see her in the roadstead this morning in time to be tendered on the morning tide. The Egmont sails for Sydney direct. It is more than probable that the s.s. John Perm would leave Nelson for this port yesterday evening. She is announced to leave HoMtika on the 2nd proximo, for the Manukau, via Grey and Westport. There is little doubt that the s.s. Gothenburg arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday, but the wires being down communication could not be flashed through. We fully expect to see her in this roadstead on Saturday next. She is announced to sail from this port for Melbourne direct.

Another craft arrived in the roadstead yesterday, which makes the number now at anchor, including the lighter, up to seven vessels. The last arrival is the brigantine Anne Moore, from Melbourne, which port she left on the loth inst. The s.s. Waipsra is at present on her trip south— towards this- port. She sailed from Westport yesterday, and may be expected here to-morrow. There was no appearance of the 1 itnama mail steamer liuahine at Wellington, up to the time of closiug the telegraph office yesterday evening. The only reason that can now be adduced for her absence is the supposition that her machinery must have broken down. The Ruahine in nearly a week overdue.
