Although the entrance to the river continues all but closed, we have to note some improvement in business for the week. Tho country storekeepers, who are last running out of stocV, have been more iv the market, and traasaclions, though not extensive, have been sufficiently so, to tln'ow more anunat-'on into business thau we could note for some weeks pas!. Imporl3 have been, under tho circumstances, on a most limited scale. The much des'red addition to stocks aro still held by (lie ilect in the roaditcad. The very desirable attempt to open a new entrance to the river through the ba? is being prosecuted with vigour, and we trust no eQbrls will bo spared to make it a decided suctes?, and an impetus given to business, so desii-able to all interested in the progress oftljs West Coast.
Stocks of all k^nd3 are beiug very much reduced, and yet we have to report scarcely any improvement in values from actual transactions. , When we note that all tlje principle staples are fii-m, we can sea-cely go farther.
