West Coast Times Office, Saturday Evening. The amount of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was Llsl 123 9d. The following list of merchandise cleared shows its distribution :—: —

As we anticipated, business in major staples has been exceedingly brisk, and enhanced values havo been tho consequence, owing in a great measure to the very favoiable advices of the intercolonial markets. Breadstuffs have considerably improved. The price of Adelaide flour has advanced from L 22 to L 24 per ton ; Tasmanian, L2O. Stocks being light, a further advance is anticipated. Oats have likewise improved ; a parcel ex H. Nathan realised 3s 9d to 4s per bushel at ship's side. There are now buyers in tho market at 4s 3d, but holders decline anything less than 4s 6d. Bran, Is 2d. Chaff ha 3 been placed at Lls 103 per ton. Provisions. — in hams and bacon there is no alteration. Butter has met with au advance, and been sold at Is 2d and Is 3d per lb. Cheese is in good demand. In wines and spirits wo have no alteration to quote; for best brands of ale and porter in glass there is moro enquiry. Business with the coast goldfields has been very animated, likewise with the interior, with every prospect of furthor improvement.
