WESTLAND DISTRICT COURT. CRIMINAL SITTINGS.
The Criminal- Sittings of the Westland District Court will be held this morning, at Hokitika, at 11 o'clock. The following is the list of prisoners for trial : — Emma Webb, larceny in a dwelling. Eobert Brown, Alfred Munton, and Wm. Battle, larceny. The following is the only Civil case set down for trial : — Cowlishaw and Plaisted v. Stone.
The \erj wet weather of last week appears to have been by no means confined to Westland, for we are informed that on the plains of East Canterbury, the weather has been extremely wet and inclement. The following is the return of the state of Hokitika Gaol for tho week ended 7th December, 1867: — Males, for trial, 7 ; ponal servitude, 5 ; hard labor, 27 ; imprisonment, 1 ; j default of bai), 2 j clobtors, 9 ; remand, 1. Total, 52. Females, hard-labor, 3 ; received during tho week, 5 ; discharged, 9. Of tho 27 males to lmrd-lubor 7 are employed at the Polioe-barracks,
