MASONIC.

THE WESTLAND KILWINNIUG LODGE. Monday eveniug last will long be remembered by the members, of the WestlandKilwinningLodge S.C. and those members of the craft who, although not belonging to the Lodge, visited it on tho occasion of the presentation to it of its Charter by the Bight Worshipful Acting Substitute Provincial Grand Master, Brother Campbell of Dunedin. The members assembled in the Masonic Hall, at tho Commercial and Masonic Hotel, at half-past seven o'clock in the evening. ThoHallwas brilliantly illuminated, and all the brethren present were hi full Masonic costume. The altar on which lay the volume of the sacred law, was covered with rich drapery of royal blue fringed with gold. The Lodge was opened in the first degree, and afterwards raised to the third the following officers assisting in the ceremony: — W. M. Cuddiford . S. W. Deputy Master Brother. Harvey ; J. W. Brother Waters, with Brother Senior Deacon Roberts, and Brother Junior Deacon Hardcastle. Brother Joseph Exall officiated as organist. When the Lodge was in the third degree, the Kight Worshipful Acting Substitute P.G.M. was announced, and a procession being formed, it entered the Lodge in the following order. A Grand March by Mendelsshon being performed on tho harmonium :—: — Inner Guard (Brother G. Milbank) with drawn sword. The Secrotary (Brother J. P. Morton,) bearing tho charter. The Treasurer (Brother J. Spicer) bearing the volume of the Sacred Law on a velvet cushion. Two Stewards with wands, viz., Brethren Osborne and Cullis. The. Senior and Junior Deacons (Brethren Eoberts aud Hardcastle) bearing the level and plumb-rule. . The J. W. (Brother Waters) with the J.W.s column. The Eight Worshipful Acting Substitute P. G. M. (Campbell), supported ou the right by Deputy Mascer G. W. Harvey and the W. M. of the Pacific Lodge, E. C. (Brother Eice) and P. H. Moss ; and on the left by the Eight Worshipful D. P. G. M. Lazar, E.C., aud P. M. Tayier aud P. M. Thaeker. The E. W. A. S. P. G. M. having been conducted to the W. M.'s chair, presented the charter, which was received by the W. M. and laid on the altar. Tho lodge was then lowered to the second and first degrees, aud the treasurer's and secretary's books having been examined, the lodge was again raised to the third degree, when two brethren were raised to the high and sublime degree of Master Masons. The E. W. A. S. P. G. M. then expressed himself highly satisfied with the working of the " Westland. Kilwinning Lodge," a working which he felt sure could not bo excelled in New Zealand. Shortly before midnight the lodge closed in peaco and harmony, and the brethren then proceeded to THE BANQUET. This repast was provided by Messrs Sibley.and Boedinghaus of tho Commercial and Masonic Hotel, under the superintendance of Brother G. Millbank.

The viands, which comprised all the delicacios of the season, were done to a turn, and the wines were of the choicest description. The chair was taken' by the W.M. Brother Cuddiford, and Deputy Master Harvey acted as vice-chairman. After ample justice had been done to the repast, and dessert placed upon the A table, the following toasts were drunk and r responded to :-" The Queen and the £ P rS?C - Tk ° Three Constitutions ;" The Provincial Grand Lodge of Dunen ' i 8#l«8 #l « nJ oß^^ t0 Brother Campbell. « The W.M., aud officers of the Pacific Lodge, E.C.," responded to by Brother Rice;" " The Past Masters' 1 responded to by Brother Tayler;" and " lhe Press, responded to by Brother Exall of the West Coast Times. When the usual toasts had been given, harmony succeeded, and it was growing near dawn ere the guests departed.
