COMMERCIAL INTEL IIGENCE.
West Coast Tnnss Office, Saturday Evening. The amount of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was L2ol los 9d. Tho following list of merchandise cleared shows its distribution :—: —
We have to note an unusually quiet week in tho import market ; very slight additions having been made to stock, owing to very unfavorable weather keeping several heavy cargoes in the roadstead. Business during the week has been fairly active ; a considerable quantity of hcai*y goods having been sent to the local goldfiolds, but no material alteration can be noted in market values. Flour shows a tendency to improve, and cereals generally uro firmer. In wines and spirits there has not been much activity. Firstclass English ale has been more enquired for, but no improvement on our last quotation can be realised. Should the weather prove more propitious considerable activity may bo anticipated. The import, duties collected during tho week amount to £1115 8s 6d.
