West Coast Times Office,
Tuesday, October 1, 1867. The English mail by the Suez route, covering telegraphic intelligence to the 11th August, was forwarded by wire from the Bluff on the 18th ult. The mails were received and delivered in Hokitika on Saturday, the 21st. The Panama mail reached Wellington on the evening of the 26th September. We are in receipt of a telegraphic summary of the news, which, although not of later date, with the exception of American items, is fuller in detail ; and it is probable that letters and papers will reach us to-morrow by way of Christchurch.
Owing to an interruption in our ordinary steam mail service with Melbourne, we were unable to forward our usual fortnightly Summary for transmission via Suez. Our present resume of news, therefore, extends over the month of September. It is intended to be transmitted by the Airedale for Wellington, for despatch thence by the R.M.S. Kaikoura for Panama. Our record of events will be found under their usual headings.
