The " Sydney Empire " says :—": — " We learn by the schooner Arche d 1 Alliance of a frightful murdor of a whole family at New Caledonia. The brutal tragedy is said to have ' been committed on tho Big River ; the victims being a Mr and Mrs Pascal, their two children, and a servant. The perprebrators of the deed were four natives of Sandwich, who were in the employ of Mr Pascal, and we learn J were all captured by tlie authorities of New j Caledonia.
The "Wellington Independent," of 'the 19th instant, says : — " The Hon. T, H. Bartley will/ we understand^ resign the office of Speaker of the Legislative Council ab the end of the present session. The Grovernment propose to grant him a retiring allowance of MOO per annum, and a bill was sent down by message to tho House of Bepresentatives last night to effeot this objeot. • '
