THE STEAMERS BRUCE AND PERSEVERE.
TO TIIE EDITOR OF THE WEST COAST TIME?.
Sib — In your issue of the 23rd inst. I observe a paragraph in your shipping column, referring to the Persevere having no lights up on leaving Hokitika on Sunday morning. I beg to contradict such statements, as my lights were burning brilliantly from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. ; and as for Cuptain Turnbull corroborating Captain Kcrley's statement, I am astonishad, a3 the former was standing at the foot of Re veil street when I was going down the river; he hailed me, and said that the Bruce was coming in. I therefore stopped the Perseveres engines to give the Bruce a chance of getting in ; but Captain Kerley seeing my lights, he stopped his vessel at the outer break. Seeing that, I went on full steam ahead with the Florence in tow. I consider it was tho Bruce's place to back out. By giving this a space in your columns you will oblige
At.cx. Robeetsox, Master, Persevere.
